NSXPO 2001 Southeast Caravan Oct.15-17, 2002

UPDATED 9/21/01 FINAL ITINERARY

Here is the final route for our Southeast caravan beginning in Orlando FL and ending in Milwaukee WI.  The travel itinerary is as follows:

• Sunday Oct.14, 2001....Florida NSXers congregate in Orlando after our social and track event at Homestead/Miami Speedway on Oct.13th....for those staying overnight, consider the Holiday Inn, Ocoee at the corner of West Colonial (Rt.50) and Maguire Rd.

• Monday Oct.15, 2001....depart Orlando 7am.....meet at McDonalds in Ocoee, west Colonial Drive, just west of Maguire Rd. and east of the Turnpike Rt. 50 interchange (exit 267)

Atlanta metro and Sangria's location

• after dinner at Sangrias, we'll be heading to various NSXCA member homes for the night to get ready for an early morning departure OUT of Atlanta starting at around 7am. 

• Tuesday Oct.16, 2001, leave junction of US60 and I-985 at 8am for a FABULOUS twisty drive through the spine of the Smokey Mountains for an evening rendevous just north of Louisville!
• This will be the HIGHLIGHT of the trip to NSXPO.  Mark Hicks has planned a 190 mile route on great hidden roads that avoid the interstates between Atlanta and Knoxville.  The route will culminate in the Cherohala Skyway over the crest of the Smokey's, a brand new curving mountain byway that links Robbinsville and Tellico Plains (see diagram below)

Start of the trip northeast of Atlanta at US60 and I-985, 7am

heading north from Gainesville on US60 bound for the Chattahoochee National Forest

make sure you arrive with a full tank of gas and an empty bladder!

Heading northest on US60 from Mineral Springs to the junction of US129 heading northwest to Ribbonsville...the Tail of the Dragon as 129 is called.....318 curves in 11 miles!!!

The HIGHLIGHT of the trip...the Cherohala Skyway and Highway 165 from Robbinsville to Tellico Plains!

Sweetwater to Louisville via Lexington

• 6am departure from the Hampton Inn Clarksville bound for north Chicago to meet up at 12 noon with a HUGE gathering of NSXs headed to Milwaukee for Real Time reception at 6pm (route map to be posted within a few days!)

5 hour 325 mile route from Louisville to north Chicago...construction delays possible
