NSXcapades 1999 Sept.4-6, Miami FL
The Labor Day weekend marked the first NSX Club meeting in Miami FL. A total of 17 NSXs participated in the festivities which began with a Saturday luncheon at Miami Acura. Steve Hoppe, parts manager, made all the arrangements and opened his dealership to our group. The 12 NSXs in the parking lot sure got everybody's attention. In addition, Miami Acura has just announced it will offer a 15% discount on parts and service to all club members.
Scott Edwards...."solid"
From Miami Acura, it was off to the Fontainbleau Hilton on Miami Beach to check in. This grand hotel hosted us for the weekend in fine style.
The NSX draws a crowd at the hotel entrance
Saturday evening saw 12 NSXs at cruise night in Kendall....a huge collection of cars and car buffs. According to Richard Schneider there is hardly ever an NSX here, let alone 12 of them. We were the hit of the show....even when a blue Lambo belonging to a Dolphin's player showed up with 200 miles on the odo.
The weather was beautiful on Saturday and Sunday. Sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Sunday began with a champaigne brunch at the Hilton. The food was incredible and the live music and lobby decor added that fine touch to our meal. Of course with all that food we had to work hard to burn it off....poolside.
The traffic on South Beach is horrible. Given the logistics of getting 12 NSXs through the hotel entrance with valets, tour buses, and taxis I decided to rent a shuttle bus to take all 20 of us to Bayside in downtown Miami for our harbor tour and shopping expedition. We saw the new Miami Heat arena on the way there in air-conditioned comfort (it was HOT). During the boat tour we saw the homes of the rich and not so famous....thinking about what it would look like with 12 NSXs parked out front....
Sunday evening was our dinner at Penrods followed by a group outing to South Beach. We had the balcony of the restaurant to ourselves overlooking the dunes of Miami Beach as the sun was setting. The 14 NSXs were secure in the off-street parking lot, a rare find in South Beach. After a great dinner and social hour, most walked into the heart of South Beach to check out the clubs and the clubbers.
Plans are already being made for our next Miami meeting complete with a lapping day at Homestead Motorsports Park between the dates of Feb.14-20, 2000. Average daytime high temperature in Miami in Feb., a balmy 77 degrees! See you all then.
